The Merck Veterinary Manual states that ferrets are carnivorous. It lists protein need at 35% to 40% of the diet. It also says carbohydrate should stay under 25% and fiber under 2.5%.
Those Merck ranges are diet targets, not bag ranks. A guaranteed analysis is a legal minimum or maximum. It is not the exact bowl you will pour.
The Association of American Feed Control Officials lists ferrets as specialty pets in its Model Bill. AAFCO’s 2025 purpose-statement guidance says specialty pets use a “Daily” purpose statement when no recognized nutritional authority exists.
