A product entered the table only if its maker page listed a fiber percent, feeding weight, or enclosure measure. We left out outdoor hutches, seed-and-nut mixes, and toys with no published material spec.
What dwarf means on a scale
The American Rabbit Breeders Association lists the Netherland Dwarf with a maximum weight of 2.5 pounds. That page also records 25 showable color varieties. Those two numbers are the only size facts we take from ARBA here.
A mixed pet sold as a dwarf bunny can still grow past that show limit. Weigh weekly after the first year. A 3-pound adult is still a small rabbit, not a Netherland Dwarf under the ARBA cap.
ARBA describes a brachycephalic head on this breed. Short faces change dental geometry. That is a conformation note, not a diagnosis.
Do not pick a rabbit by ear length alone. Ear length is not a published inch rule on the ARBA page we opened. Use the 2.5-pound weight cap as the check you can repeat at home.
Diet numbers we can actually quote
House Rabbit Society puts adult pellets at 1/4 cup per 6 pounds of body weight each day. A 2.5-pound dwarf is well under that 6-pound example. Scale the cup down.
The same House Rabbit Society page sets vegetables at a minimum of 2 cups chopped greens per 6 pounds. For a 2.5-pound rabbit, that is closer to four-fifths of a cup than a family salad bowl.
House Rabbit Society wants leafy greens to make up about 75% of the fresh portion. Non-leafy vegetables stay at about 15%, or about 1 tablespoon per 2 pounds. Fruit stays at about 1 teaspoon per 2 pounds.
Hay is not a side dish. House Rabbit Society says adult rabbits need unlimited grass hay, and it names timothy, orchard, and oat as adult options. Alfalfa hay is reserved there for nursing mothers and young rabbits.
House Rabbit Society also sets a pellet fiber floor of 18% minimum. Comparing published specs, both pellet bags below clear that floor. Mixes with seeds and corn did not, so they missed the table.
Oxbow Animal Health prints a mature ration of 1/8 cup daily for rabbits that weigh 1 to 4 pounds. That band covers a true dwarf. Feed that amount in addition to unlimited grass hay, as Oxbow writes.
Supreme Petfoods writes a different example. Science Selective Adult Rabbit Food lists about 2 to 2.5 ounces per day for a typical 5.5-pound adult. A 2.5-pound dwarf is not that example animal.
Association of American Feed Control Officials says pet food labels need a guaranteed analysis. The required set is minimum crude protein, minimum crude fat, maximum crude fiber, and maximum moisture. Read those four lines before a flavor claim.
Oxbow Essentials Adult Rabbit Food lists crude protein at 14.00% minimum and crude fiber between 25.00% and 29.00%. Moisture is 10.00% maximum. Calcium sits between 0.35% and 0.75%.
Science Selective Adult Rabbit Food lists crude protein at 12.5% minimum and crude fiber between 21.5% and 28.5%. Moisture is 11.0% maximum. Supreme Petfoods also prints 25% crude fibre on the marketing block.
The first ingredient on the Oxbow pellet page is Timothy grass meal. The first ingredient on the Science Selective page is alfalfa meal pellets. House Rabbit Society prefers timothy-based pellets for adults.
Oxbow Western Timothy Hay lists crude protein at 7.00% minimum, crude fiber at 32.00% maximum, and moisture at 15.00% maximum. Bag sizes on that page run from 15 ounces to 50 pounds.
Small Pet Select 1st Cutting Timothy Hay lists crude protein at 6.99% minimum. Crude fiber is 36.64% maximum, and moisture is 9.11% maximum. That page also tells owners to keep hay at 80% of intake.
House Rabbit Society tells owners to wash vegetables for at least two minutes in a bowl. Change the water several times. The page ties that wash to Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type-2.
Housing that matches the body, not the carton
House Rabbit Society says a rabbit’s sleeping space should be four times the rabbit’s size. It names a 4-by-4-foot puppy exercise pen as an ideal setup for most. A cage is a rest room, not the whole home.
The same page wants large-scale cardiovascular play for 4 or more hours each day. Running, jumping, and digging are listed as the work that raises heart rate. A dwarf still needs that block of time.
Any extra cage should be 3 to 4 times the stretch-out length of the rabbit, per House Rabbit Society. The smaller the rest space, the more time the rabbit needs outside it.
MidWest Homes for Pets lists the Wabbitat Deluxe Rabbit Home with a 5.5-inch-deep plastic pan and 1-inch mesh spacing. The page also lists a removable hay feeder, water bottle, and feeding bowl.
That cage can be a rest box. It is not a substitute for the 4-by-4-foot pen House Rabbit Society names. Use the pan depth and mesh size as cleaning facts.
House Rabbit Society lists a water bowl, food bowl, litter box, hide, and toys as essentials. It says rabbits drink more from bowls. Bowls are also easier to wash daily.
Solid, cushioned flooring is on that essentials list. Wire floors are not. A dwarf’s hocks are small, so the rest pad still needs a solid layer.
Bunny-proof the play zone before the first free roam. House Rabbit Society tells owners to cover cords, pull houseplants, and block gaps under furniture. A 2-pound rabbit can still reach a power strip.

The two hays differ on moisture and fiber caps. Small Pet Select prints a drier, higher fiber maximum. Oxbow prints a 15.00% moisture cap and a 32.00% fiber cap.

Lifespan and health limits we can document
The American Rabbit Breeders Association Netherland Dwarf page we opened does not publish a lifespan in years. House Rabbit Society’s diet and housing pages we opened also skip a year count. We therefore do not invent a breed-specific lifespan number.
Treat the animal as a multi-year indoor companion. Budget hay, litter, and clinic access across years, not a school-term. A two-year classroom plan is the wrong time box.
Dental wear is the health limit we can quote from House Rabbit Society. Teeth grow continuously, and hay wear is the daily file. Rabbits that skip hay can grow points that cut the mouth and stop eating.
House Rabbit Society says those points then need professional filing. That is a stop-eating emergency path, not a home trim. Keep hay in front of the rabbit every hour of the day.
Watch stool size and appetite twice a day. A dwarf has a small reserve. One missed meal is a bigger share of body mass than it is for an 8-pound rabbit.
Do not add yogurt drops, seed blends, or nut mixes. House Rabbit Society tells owners never to feed pellets that include fruits, seeds, nuts, corn, or yogurt drops. Those bags failed our selection rule.
If you switch pellets, Oxbow prints a four-week mix. Start at 3-to-1 old-to-new, then even parts, then 1-to-3, then the new bag alone. Do not dump a full bowl of a new formula on day one.
