Hay first, then the holder
A feeder does not replace hay. It only changes where the pile sits.
NC State Veterinary Hospital states that about 80% of a guinea pig’s diet should be high-quality timothy hay. That hospital also says hay should be available at all times.
Oxbow Animal Health’s February 2024 guinea pig care guide sets a lower floor. It says fresh grass hay should make up at least 70% of the diet and should always be available.
