The same design is also the main drawback. A dog that swallows pieces whole never gets the scrub. A toy-breed jaw may not fit the piece at all.

Hill’s lists chicken first, then brown rice, wheat, and corn. It also lists chicken meal further down.

Hill’s publishes 24.7% protein and 15.8% fat on a dry-matter basis, with 10.1% crude fiber. That fiber helps the kibble hold together, and it can also mean larger stools.

Go! Solutions Dental + Immune Health Chicken + Salmon Dry Dog Food takes a mixed path. The maker describes large, dense kibble plus sodium hexametaphosphate for tartar, plus parsley and peppermint for odor.

The Go! Solutions page reports 21.5% less plaque and 32.8% less gingivitis in a 56-day crossover. It also reports 45.6% less bad breath versus a leading maintenance diet.

That is the maker’s trial against a regular diet, not against Hill’s, and it is not a number we collected.

Sodium hexametaphosphate is a phosphate salt some owners do not want every day. The kibble is still large, so a tiny dog can fail the chew step here too.

Chicken meal is the first ingredient, which is why the protein looks strong on paper. Shoppers who expect visible chicken chunks can feel misled by that label.

The Go! Solutions page lists 24% minimum protein, 14% minimum fat, and 7% maximum fiber. The recipe is formulated to meet AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for Maintenance, and bags are 4 lb, 9 lb, and 18 lb.

Those plaque numbers do not make Teenie a meal, and they do not travel to a 40 lb dog. A large dog on a Teenie finishes it in two bites. A 4 lb dog is below the cutoff.

Greenies warns that gulping any chew can be harmful or even fatal. The toothbrush shape only works if the treat stays in the mouth long enough to bend around the teeth.

Pedigree Dentastix Large Breed Dental Dog Treats sit at the other end. Pedigree says one treat a day for dogs 40 lb and up, and it is not for puppies or dogs under 40 lb.
